The hospital administration has issued a statement regarding images allegedly taken at Düzce University Research and Application Hospital that sparked backlash on social media.

In the shared images, it was alleged that sexually explicit content was being played on a computer screen in a room facing the hospital corridor. Posts claiming that the room's door was open and the screen was visible to those passing through the corridor quickly became a trending topic.

The hospital administration reported that the location in question is a private area used for providing samples for spermiogram tests within the Andrology Laboratory, which has been serving in Düzce for approximately 25 years.

The statement noted that the use of visual stimuli during the sample collection process in IVF and andrology laboratories is among the clinical practices used to support patients during the sample provision process.

The administration maintained that the materials in the room are kept solely for the purpose of spermiogram testing and personal use, and are not accessible to third parties.

The statement further expressed that evaluating the images independently of the area's intended use and nature ignores the medical context of the practice. The hospital administration announced that the usage and access conditions of the relevant area have been reviewed to protect patient privacy and that necessary measures have been taken.

The full statement is as follows:

“Following reports in some press and media outlets regarding our University's Faculty of Medicine Hospital, it has been deemed necessary to issue a statement to inform the public accurately.

The location subject to the news is a private area used for providing samples for spermiogram tests within our Andrology Laboratory, which is the only one of its kind in Düzce and has been serving for approximately 25 years. The use of visual stimuli during the sample collection process in IVF and andrology laboratories is among the clinical practices used to support patients during the sample provision process.

''A CONTROLLED AREA DESIGNED WITH PRIVACY IN MIND''

The room in question is a controlled area independent of the hospital's general use areas, accessible through two separate doors, lockable, and designed with patient privacy in mind. The materials in the room are kept solely for the purpose of spermiogram testing and personal use, and are not accessible to third parties.

Therefore, evaluating the images subject to the news independently of their intended use and the nature of the area leads to the disregard of the medical context of the practice.

Nevertheless, the usage and access conditions of the relevant area have been reviewed to protect patient privacy, and necessary measures have been taken.

Respectfully announced to the public.”
