Sezai Irmak, President of the Edirne Chamber of Commerce and Industry, had recently announced that the price of bread would be 10 lira after March 31.
In a written statement issued by the Edirne Governor's Office, it was stated that a clarification regarding the process was deemed necessary following reports in the local press and the high volume of inquiries from citizens.
The statement referred to regulations concerning the pricing of goods and services produced by professional chambers, noting that decisions made by the relevant chambers must be submitted to the Ministry of Trade and subsequently reported to the Governor's Office; however, it was clarified that no new price tariff has reached the Governor's Office at this time.
The statement noted that the currently valid price for standard bread in Edirne is 37.50 TL per kilogram, with a 200-gram loaf sold for 7.50 TL, and emphasized that once a price tariff other than the current one reaches the Governor's Office, action will be taken in accordance with the authority granted by legislation.
