Governor Gül's statement on the landslide in Gaziosmanpaşa: 'These structures need to be demolished'
The landslide that occurred in Gaziosmanpaşa was captured in the first light of day. Istanbul Governor Davut Gül stated after his inspections, "These houses should have been evacuated anyway."

Gaziosmanpaşa experienced a landslide yesterday (20.04.2024), which resulted in 24 buildings being damaged and evacuated.
In a statement released by the Governor's Office yesterday evening, it was announced that out of the 96 citizens living in the evacuated houses, 78 were placed in hotels, while 18 citizens moved into the homes of relatives at their own request.
The condition of the damaged buildings was captured once again with the first light of day.
"THESE HOUSES SHOULD HAVE BEEN EVACUATED ANYWAY"
Governor Davut Gül made the following statements to members of the press after his inspections:
"As you can see behind us, this area has been declared a risky area and urban transformation is ongoing. Three of the single-story houses located here were damaged due to the landslide. The other houses were also evacuated as a precautionary measure to ensure they are not affected by either the rain or the landslide. Initially, 14 houses were evacuated; as of now, 30 houses have been evacuated. These houses should have been evacuated anyway. This corresponds to a total of 114 people. We are currently trying to determine whether those living in the houses we are dealing with are tenants or homeowners. Today and tomorrow, we will move those who are tenants into rental properties and those who are homeowners into new homes."
"THE STRUCTURES HERE NEED TO BE DEMOLISHED"
"We have no loss of life or injuries. The operation here is entirely for precautionary purposes. It is an organization we are conducting with all our institutions under the coordination of our Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change to prevent any potential loss of life or injury to our citizens. The landslide occurred on sloping land where construction work was being carried out. We have not detected a landslide in the general area here. These are structures that were previously known and recorded as risky structures that needed to be demolished, but their relocation was delayed because there was no agreement between the rights holders and the municipality until now. Even if there were no landslide, the structures here need to be moved and demolished."
