The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) released a statement regarding the killing of U.S. citizen and Turkish activist Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi on September 6. While it was noted that Israel has requested an autopsy and that an investigation has been launched by the Military Police Criminal Investigation Division (MPCID), with findings to be submitted to the Military Advocate General's Office for review, the following statements were included:

"It has been determined that it is highly likely that she was hit indirectly and unintentionally by IDF fire which was not aimed at her, but rather at the key instigator of the riot. The incident occurred during a violent riot in which dozens of Palestinian suspects burned tires and threw stones at security forces."

The statement concluded by expressing deep regret.
