Statement from the Istanbul Governor's Office on 'Van detentions'

In a written statement issued by the Istanbul Governor's Office, it was stated: "Regarding the attempts to hold unauthorized demonstrations and press statements in various districts of Istanbul concerning the events in our province of Van; 

At 13:00, despite the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office not permitting a press statement at the Çağlayan Courthouse in the Şişli district, 14 individuals—8 women and 6 men—from a group of lawyers who attempted to force their way into the courthouse building, damaged public property, and resisted public officers were detained. At 16:00, in front of the DEM Party district building in Sultanbeyli, 26 individuals—9 women, 15 men, and 2 children driven to crime—who did not comply with the prohibition order, held an unauthorized demonstration, and physically resisted officers, causing injury to 2 police officers, were detained...

A group of 150 people arrived at Esenyurt Republic Square at 18:00 to hold an unauthorized demonstration. The group was notified of the prohibition order issued by the Esenyurt District Governorate and the necessary warnings to disperse were given. 87 individuals—20 women and 67 men—who insisted on not dispersing in the square and at different points were detained...

At 19:15, 5 individuals holding an unauthorized demonstration on Demokrasi Street in the İnönü neighborhood of the Sancaktepe district were detained, bringing the total number of individuals apprehended to 132," the statement read.
