Despite his numerous medical conditions and a recent health scare, the lawyer for Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) Deputy Secretary General Mahir Polat, who is being held in custody at the Marmara Closed Prison in Silivri, has made a statement regarding his health status.

It has been learned that Polat, who was arrested and sent to prison as part of the 'urban consensus' investigation launched into the IBB, recently underwent an angiogram, has 6 stents implanted, uses numerous medications, and is a cancer survivor.

Polat's lawyer, Erkam Erdem, stated that after Polat experienced blood pressure issues recently, he received initial treatment at the infirmary of the Marmara No. 9 Prison where he is being held, was then transferred to Silivri State Hospital, and was returned to his cell in the prison following his treatment.

According to the report by Çağdaş Bayraktar from Cumhuriyet, Attorney Erdem stated that the request for a hospital transfer was accepted today and that they are awaiting the transfer, adding that Polat is also worried about the current situation.

Emphasizing that Polat has suffered from hypertension since the age of 21, Attorney Erdem continued his remarks as follows:

“In our last meeting, he said, 'If I experience a blood pressure or heart issue right now, there is no way for me to make my voice heard or for immediate intervention to take place.' We want this mistake to be corrected as soon as possible before it leads to much more severe consequences.”
