Mahir Polat's lawyer, Erkam Erdem, announced that they have filed an appeal petition for the release of IMM Deputy Secretary General Mahir Polat, who has been detained in Silivri Prison since March 26 as part of the "City Consensus" investigation, due to his deteriorating health.
In a post on his social media account, Erdem stated, "We expect the process to be evaluated in accordance with the fundamental principles of law," adding, "Current medical reports clearly demonstrate that his detention poses serious risks to his health."
IMM Deputy Secretary General Polat, who has been detained in Silivri Prison since March 26, has been hospitalized several times due to his health worsening while in custody.
After being arrested and sent to prison on Sunday, March 23, Polat was first hospitalized on the evening of Wednesday, March 26, due to high blood pressure.
Polat was transferred to Silivri State Hospital, discharged on Thursday, March 27, and returned to prison. On Saturday, March 29, Polat was hospitalized once again due to high blood pressure.
His lawyer, Erdem, reported that Polat's blood pressure rose to 24 and he was admitted to the intensive care unit at Mehmet Akif Ersoy Hospital. Polat, who underwent an angiography on the morning of Sunday, March 30, was discharged on the morning of Monday, March 31, and taken back to the prison in Silivri.
Most recently, Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç stated that Polat, who was transferred to the hospital from Silivri prison, had been referred to the Council of Forensic Medicine in accordance with a Health Board decision. His lawyer announced that Polat had been transferred to the hospital within the prison, stating that they believed the transfer took place due to the medical report requested during the week.
"POSES SERIOUS RISKS TO HIS HEALTH"
Another post regarding Polat's latest status came from his lawyer, Erdem. In his post on the social media platform X, Erdem provided the following information:
"We have filed our appeal petition for the release of Mahir Polat due to his deteriorating health under prison conditions. As we stated in our petition, our client was taken to Mehmet Akif Ersoy Cardiovascular Diseases Hospital on March 29, 2025, due to his blood pressure rising to 24-11, and he was not released despite undergoing a CT scan and angiography procedure.
His hypertension, fluctuations in blood pressure between day and night, and the fact that he has had stents placed as a result of previous angiographies continue to pose a risk of brain hemorrhage. Current medical reports clearly demonstrate that his detention poses serious risks to his health.
For this reason, we are requesting his urgent release with the application of judicial control measures.
We expect the process to be evaluated in accordance with the fundamental principles of law and submit this to the attention of the public."
