CHP Şanlıurfa Deputy and lawyer Mahmut Tanal made a statement regarding the detention of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Secretary General Mahir Polat in prison despite his health problems, saying, "Keeping Mahir Polat inside today is not a rule-of-law issue, but a clear indicator of the application of enemy criminal execution law."

Tanal said the following in his statement on his X account:

"Mahir Polat's health condition carries a serious risk.

The clear provisions of the Law on the Execution of Sentences allow for the release of detainees who face life-threatening risks. When medical reports and health board evaluations are clear, release is a right and a necessity.

However, if 'enemy criminal law' is in effect, meaning the law is applied based on the individual, this right is effectively ignored.

Keeping Mahir Polat inside today is not a rule-of-law issue, but a clear indicator of the application of enemy criminal execution law.

Either face the lawlessness or enforce the law. Mahir Polat must be released immediately!"
