Statement from Minister Göktaş on Narin Güran and baby Sıla! 'To ensure they receive the harshest punishment...'

Minister of Family and Social Services Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş stated that the ministry's lawyers are fighting hard to ensure that the perpetrators of the murders of baby Sıla and Narin Güran receive the harshest sentences. Göktaş noted that psychosocial support efforts are ongoing for the other children in the village where Narin Güran lived. She also made significant remarks regarding social media and television series.

Minister of Family and Social Services Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş made statements to the AA Editor's Desk. Regarding the cases of the murders of Sıla and Narin, Göktaş said, "Our ministry's lawyers are fighting hard to ensure that the perpetrators receive the harshest punishment."

Regarding the other children in the village where Narin Güran lived, Göktaş said, "We have established a psychosocial support team for the other children in the village, and we have continued our efforts to help them overcome their trauma."

ISTANBUL CONVENTION

Regarding social media, Minister Göktaş said, "It is clear that we need a significant regulation to protect children. We have initiated our legislative work under the leadership of our ministry."

Regarding the Istanbul Convention, Minister Göktaş stated, "We view violence against women as a human rights struggle. Our work did not begin with a convention, and it is not the case that it will end with one."

Regarding television series, Minister Göktaş explained, "I do not find it right for productions that devalue women to be created and for ratings to be generated through this. I am calling out to our producers once again on this matter." She added, "Seeing violence on television both harms our children and normalizes violence. We do not want to see content that objectifies women on television."
