Statement from Minister of Youth and Sports Osman Aşkın Bak on Zeren Ertaş: 'The elevator's last maintenance was performed on October 16'

Minister of Youth and Sports Osman Aşkın Bak made statements at the TBMM Planning and Budget Committee regarding the elevator accident in Aydın that resulted in the death of university student Zeren Ertaş.

Minister Bak stated, "As is the case in all our facilities, periodic elevator maintenance and inspections are carried out in our Ministry's 830 dormitories. First and foremost, I would like to state here that the information claiming that maintenance was not performed or was neglected is unfounded."

"LAST MAINTENANCE ON OCTOBER 16"

Minister Bak continued his remarks as follows:

"The annual elevator maintenance for our Aydın Güzelhisar Girls' Dormitory was performed on July 13, 2023. As in all our other facilities, periodic monthly maintenance continued to be performed in Aydın as well. The last maintenance date of the elevator is October 16, 2023.

All documents and paperwork are in our possession. The matter is now with the judicial authorities. The pain is the pain of us all. The child is the child of us all, but this is certainly not a subject to be exploited. I invite everyone to act with this sense of responsibility. Through a joint effort with our Ministry of Industry and Technology, we will place a QR code on the elevators in our facilities. Anyone who wishes will be able to scan that QR code and see the entire maintenance process and schedule of the elevator."
