A 4.3-magnitude earthquake occurred in the Onikişubat district of Kahramanmaraş yesterday at 18:23.
Making a statement after the earthquake, Prof. Dr. Naci Görür said, "There will not be another major earthquake in the region where the earthquake occurred, and it will not turn into a disaster. However, unbroken fault segments may produce earthquakes, but these earthquakes will not turn into a major disaster. The February 6 earthquakes may have loaded stress onto certain faults in neighboring regions."
Görür used the following expressions in his post:
"A conversation with my people in the earthquake zone: my dear friends, your pain is great, I understand you. Anxiety and fear affect you in some matters. There will not be another major earthquake in the region where the earthquake occurred, and it will not turn into a disaster. However, unbroken fault segments may produce earthquakes, but these earthquakes will not turn into a major disaster.
The February 6 earthquakes may have loaded stress onto certain faults in neighboring regions. These faults could be the Malatya Fault and the faults extending into the Adana Basin. What I am saying is also a possibility. Do not expect definitive statements or interpretations from geoscientists. Earthquakes are unpredictable. Please, let us work together for our people, for our children, for earthquake-resistant settlement areas, and let us demand this from our administrators. Only in this way can we heal our wounds and win the hearts of future generations, with love."
