Statement from Ömer Çelik on the agreement in Syria: 'The SDF's coup attempt...'

Commenting on the agreement signed between the Damascus administration and the SDF, an offshoot of the terrorist organization PKK in Syria, AKP Spokesperson Ömer Çelik stated, "The 'coup attempt' by the SDF, which targeted our principle of a 'terror-free Turkey and a terror-free region,' has been halted. The 'coup mechanism' that the SDF was a tool for has been rendered ineffective."

Ahmed al-Shara (Golani), the leader of HTS who took over the administration in Syria and serves as interim President, announced that an agreement involving "full integration" had been reached between the Damascus administration and the SDF.

Al-Shara provided information regarding the process, stating, "A ceasefire has been declared in northeastern Syria. We had a planned meeting with Mazloum Abdi, but it was postponed until tomorrow due to weather conditions. All issues regarding the SDF will be resolved."

The official Syrian news agency SANA also announced that an agreement "envisioning full integration" had been signed between the Damascus administration and the SDF.

COMPREHENSIVE STATEMENT FROM ÖMER ÇELİK

Following the agreement, AKP Spokesperson Ömer Çelik shared a detailed statement on the matter via his X account.

Çelik assessed the situation, stating, "The 'coup attempt' by the SDF, which targeted our principle of a 'terror-free Turkey and a terror-free region,' has been halted. The 'coup mechanism' that the SDF was a tool for has been rendered ineffective."

Çelik further added, "The real 'gain' for our Kurdish brothers in Syria is the roadmap that began with the March 10 Agreement, continued with the decree guaranteeing their rights, and was finally framed by this agreement."


The full text of Çelik's statement is as follows:

"I)

The decree issued in recent days by Syrian President Mr. Ahmed Shara, which ensures the rights of our Kurdish brothers in Syria, is very important. The gains achieved on a legal basis by our Kurdish brothers, who were deprived of their fundamental rights for years by the Assad administration, are gratifying.

In the decree issued by President Shara,  (Article 1) The clause, 'Syrian Kurdish citizens are accepted as an indispensable and inseparable part of the Syrian people, and their cultural and linguistic identities are an integral part of the diverse and unified Syrian national identity,' is a clear expression that all policies of denial and rejection toward our Syrian Kurdish brothers during the Baath regime era have been ended. 

This step is also proof that the same approach will be applied to all ethnic and sectarian groups in Syria. 

On this occasion, let us reiterate that since the times when our President was Prime Minister,  and even before the Assad regime began its massacres, he persistently raised the rights of our Kurdish brothers in Syria during his meetings with Assad. 

The Syrian administration has faced many difficulties since the revolution. Foremost among these are the destabilizing activities of terrorist organizations. The continuation of the fight against the DAESH terrorist organization without interruption is a clear fact and necessity. Furthermore, the activities of the SDF terrorist organization and the 'political goals of the centers it acts under the instructions of' pose a threat to both Syria and Turkey. 

The SDF's aim to act as a 'state within a state and an army within an army' is a task assigned to it by centers that wish to generate evil. However, this is contrary to the realities of Syria and the principle of 'one Syria and one army.' As we have said many times, 'there cannot be a state within a state or an army within an army.' The existence of 'two states and two armies' in one country is a civil war that will bring harm to everyone. The fact that terrorist organizations act like a 'parallel statelet' and a 'parallel army' is evidence that they are tools of centers trying to generate evil. Kurds, Arabs, and Turkmens do not benefit from this, and it is well known who does. 

A 'terror-free Turkey' and a 'terror-free region' are intertwined processes; they cannot be separated. By not complying with the March 10 Agreement, the SDF has become a tool for a project of evil that targets our Kurdish brothers in Syria and all of Syria. Thus, it has also sabotaged our goal of a 'terror-free Turkey and a terror-free region.'

The SDF/PKK's attempt to assassinate the 'terror-free region' goal and thwart the 'terror-free Turkey' goal has been

prevented by the Syrian administration's counter-terrorism operations. The SDF's 'coup attempt' targeting our principle of a 'terror-free Turkey and a terror-free region' has been halted. The 'coup mechanism' that the SDF serves as a tool for has been rendered ineffective.

II)

Terrorist organizations cannot be representatives of any ethnic or religious group. Those who define the occupation by terrorist organizations as a 'gain' fall into the position of supporting malicious political projects that seek to bring destruction to our Kurdish brothers and all of Syria. Claiming to support a 'terror-free Turkey' while opposing a 'terror-free region' is a grave political contradiction. 

What is essential is that, through an inclusive social, political, and constitutional model, our Arab, Turkmen, and Kurdish brothers, as well as members of all religions and sects, become equal and honorable components of a unified and whole Syria. 

At this point, the 'Ceasefire and Full Integration Agreement' announced by Syrian President Ahmed Shara will be an important foundation for the unity of Syria. This is a clear declaration toward Syria's internal integration. At the same time, it is a correct step that we support for our 'terror-free region' approach. The real 'gain' for our Kurdish brothers in Syria is the roadmap that began with the March 10 Agreement, continued with the decree guaranteeing their rights, and was finally framed by this agreement. 

Every step taken in Syria to act with common sense against all kinds of sabotage, to ensure unity and integrity, and to eliminate terrorism is valuable. It is clear that this must be handled in conjunction with the principle that there must be no compromise in the fight against terrorism. 

Our President's 'politics of brotherhood' toward the peoples of our neighboring countries and our immediate region continues with determination. We will continue to work for the peoples of brotherly countries to have an honorable, peaceful, secure, and prosperous future, free from terrorism and imperialist tutelage. We continue to see that this strategy, which our President has produced over the years with patience, wisdom, and effort, produces correct results for everyone, based on 'respect for the sovereignty' of brotherly countries."
