Statement from Özlem Zengin regarding the footage in Mersin: 'This is a crime'

Stating that filming and sharing the footage without permission is a crime, Zengin announced that the Ministry of Interior has launched an investigation into the law enforcement officers who filmed the footage.

AKP Group Deputy Chairperson Özlem Zengin made evaluations regarding the footage filmed during operations conducted in Mersin.
Reacting to a woman being filmed in her own home in violation of her privacy, Zengin stated that filming without permission is a crime, even if the footage is not published.
Zengin said, "If a woman's privacy is stolen in her own home—at whatever hour it may be—in the place where she feels most comfortable, and her image is captured without her consent, it is a crime if it is filmed, even if it is not published, and it is certainly a crime if it is published."
Stating that it is their duty to follow up on such incidents, Zengin provided information about the actions initiated regarding the matter following her meeting with the Ministry of Justice.
Zengin stated that the Ministry of Interior has launched an investigation into the law enforcement officers who filmed the footage, adding, "As a result of this investigation, those who filmed and shared the footage will certainly face sanctions."
MINISTRY OF JUSTICE ISSUED A CIRCULAR
Zengin also announced that the Ministry of Justice issued a new circular following the incident.
Stating that the circular introduces new regulations on how the process will be conducted in investigation processes where families and women are parties or interveners, Zengin said, "Our Ministry of Justice also issued a circular immediately after this incident regarding how these processes will be carried out in stages where the family and the woman are parties or interveners in these investigation processes."
