Statement from Prof. Dr. Ali Koçyiğit following the Gemlik earthquake: 'This earthquake is very serious'
The 5.1 magnitude earthquake that occurred in Gemlik, Bursa, and was also felt in surrounding provinces, caused panic among the public. METU faculty member Prof. Dr. Ali Koçyiğit stated, "The 5.1 magnitude earthquake that occurred in Gemlik, even if small, is very important and serious."
In the Gulf of Gemlik, Bursa, an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.1 occurred at 10:42.
The earthquake was also felt in surrounding provinces, primarily Istanbul, Çanakkale, and Kocaeli.
METU faculty member Prof. Dr. Ali Koçyiğit evaluated the earthquake that occurred in Gemlik.
'THIS EARTHQUAKE IS VERY SERIOUS'
Speaking to Habertürk, Koçyiğit stated, "An earthquake above 6.0 has not occurred in the Southern Marmara region for 500 years. A major earthquake has been expected here for 30 years. The 5.1 magnitude earthquake that occurred in Gemlik, even if small, is very important and serious. It should be closely monitored by the authorities."
