Statement from terrorist organization PKK on framework law: We will reveal our position after seeing the law

The terrorist organization PKK has issued a written statement regarding the framework law expected to be submitted to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey as part of the resolution process. The statement noted that the organization is monitoring the public debates surrounding the content of the law and stated that it will announce its definitive position once it has seen the text of the law.

The statement said, “Discussions regarding the root law, which concerns the future of the peoples of Turkey, are continuing in various forms and are being reflected in the public sphere. When we look at the discussions held and what is reflected in open sources, doubts arise regarding how seriously this law is being approached.”

In its statement, the PKK conveyed that the leader of the terrorist organization, Abdullah Öcalan, emphasized in a meeting on July 20 that the upcoming law “should not be simple, narrow, or fail to serve the future.” The text argued that the law is expected to be “an important step in bridging the hundred-year disconnect between the Kurdish people and the Turkish state.”

EMPHASIS ON THE ROLE OF LEADER ÖCALAN

The statement also touched upon debates regarding the language and definitions concerning the peace process. Using the phrase “As is the case everywhere in the world, peace begins first and foremost with language,” the statement indicated that for the process to progress, “the language, definitions, and content must be appropriate for the purpose.”

The organization reiterated its view that the leader of the terrorist organization, Abdullah Öcalan, must be included in the process. The statement also referenced MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli’s assessment regarding Öcalan becoming a “coordinator for peace and politicization,” arguing that failing to clarify the position of the terrorist organization leader Öcalan in the law would create problems in practice.

The statement included the following remarks: “Reducing the peace and democratic society process solely to disarmament is not in line with the spirit of this process. To speak of a root or framework law is to accept that other laws will be enacted and steps will be taken after this law.”

The terrorist organization PKK stated that it would make a final assessment after seeing the text of the law, adding, “As we have stated many times before, we will reveal our essential approach and position after seeing the law. Undoubtedly, if the law is positive, we will be encouraging and will do what is required of us.”
