Statement from the lawyers of Oğuz Murat Acı, who lost his life in the accident

In Eyüpsultan on March 1, 2024, it is alleged that 17-year-old T.C., the son of author Eylem Tok, struck 3 parked ATV-type vehicles on the side of the road while driving a vehicle with license plate 34 EEG 06 at approximately 23:50. 29-year-old Oğuz Murat Acı lost his life in the accident, and other individuals present were injured.

Following the accident, mother Eylem Tok, who arrived at the scene before the police teams, took her son T.C. away from the scene. As a result of investigations conducted by the teams, it was determined that the mother and son had departed for Egypt at approximately 03:50 the following day.

Within the framework of the investigation initiated by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the incident, an arrest warrant was issued the same day for suspect Eylem Tok on charges of 'aiding and abetting a criminal,' and for suspect T.C. on charges of 'causing the death of one person and the injury of multiple people.' As part of the investigation, it was also requested that a red notice be issued for the suspect mother and her son. The forms prepared for this purpose were processed and sent to the Ministry of Justice.

Lawyers for the family of Oğuz Murat Acı held a press conference regarding the matter at the Istanbul Courthouse in Çağlayan.

Stating that they are following the necessary investigations at the courthouse, Oğuz Murat Acı's family lawyer Hacı Orhan said, "Unfortunately, a tragic incident occurred due to a race held by 10 young people under the age of 18, who had made it a habit to race with 2 luxury vehicles on the Sarıyer-Göktürk road. The negligence shown by the mother who arrived at the scene after this traffic accident has unfortunately added to the pain of our clients. Our clients' only demand here is for the perpetrators to be surrendered to justice as soon as possible, for them to be tried, and for them to receive the necessary punishment."

"WE WILL ALSO FILE A COMPLAINT REGARDING THE FATHER"

Continuing his statement, lawyer Orhan said, "The father is already calling the fathers of the other children; they are all relatives. When the other father calls his own son's phone, an official answers and states, 'I am a security guard, this phone was left here, with me.'

Unfortunately, the phones were taken by the people who were there and involved in the incident, and by the mother of the child who caused the crash. Truly, the action taken by the mother has unfortunately increased the pain and has initiated a process that could lead to manslaughter through negligence, or even intentional homicide.

As far as we have seen, we have learned that the people who dropped the guilty mother and child off at the airport were unfortunately employees at the father's workplace. We will also file a complaint regarding the father," he said.

"THEY WOULD BE AT OUR FUNERAL, AT OUR CONDOLENCES"

Stating that the statements made are even more damaging, Orhan said, "A traffic accident is a normal judicial process. Unfortunately, the guilty party has further saddened the parties today by declaring that they do not trust our state or our justice system. Our clients have only one demand. Without leaving room for any rumors, our clients demand that the perpetrators first be surrendered to justice and receive the maximum possible sentence. These are the cries of a tearful mother, a tearful father, and unfortunately, a 1.5-year-old child and a 27-year-old widow.

From our perspective, if they want to establish a dialogue with us, they must first surrender to justice. There is no conversation to be had right now with someone who has fled justice and fled this country. They expressed that if they were sharing our pain, they would be with us today at our funeral and our condolences. Unfortunately, to date, none of her family has visited the family of the deceased. Therefore, we can say there is no communication at the moment," he stated.
