The statement said, 'Following the inspection and investigation to be conducted at the hotel, the necessary penal action will be applied in accordance with legal regulations.'

A scandalous incident at a hotel in Antalya has drawn backlash.

A Turkish customer, who noticed that hotels charge higher prices when reservations are made from Turkey, decided to make a reservation through a foreign website.

The Turkish customer, who booked the hotel at a cheaper price, was shocked by the treatment they encountered upon arrival at the hotel.

120 EUROS DEMANDED

Hotel officials charged an extra 120 Euros (4 thousand 178 Turkish Lira) upon realizing that the person who made the reservation was Turkish.

The fact that hotel officials reflected this fee on the invoice as a 'nationality difference' drew significant reaction. 

STATEMENT FROM THE MINISTRY

A statement regarding the matter was issued by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. 

The Ministry stated that penal action would be taken following an inspection and investigation.

The statement included the following: "Regarding the hotel reservation incident that occurred at a hotel in Antalya and was reflected on social media, our Ministry has requested an official defense from the hotel and has assigned a controller for the inspection to be conducted. Following the inspection and investigation to be carried out at the hotel, the necessary penal action will be applied in accordance with legal regulations."
