Statement from the suspect who vandalized Mattia Ahmet Minguzzi's grave: 'I was angry about his murder'

The grave of 15-year-old Mattia Ahmet Minguzzi, who lost his life as a result of a knife attack in Istanbul's Kadıköy district, had been vandalized and its surroundings damaged in Bahçelievler.

While the investigation launched ex officio regarding the ransacking of the grave in the cemetery continues, a special team had been formed at the Istanbul Police Department to apprehend the perpetrators.

The suspect identified as D.A., who vandalized Mattia Ahmet Minguzzi's grave, was apprehended by police teams. Following his statement to the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, the suspect D.A. was referred to the Criminal Judgeship of Peace with a request for arrest, where he was subsequently arrested and sent to prison on charges of 'damaging places of worship and cemeteries.'

The statement given by the suspect D.A. to the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has emerged.

"I LOST CONTROL IN THAT MOMENT OF ANGER"

In his statement, the suspect D.A. said, "I am homeless and stay on the grass under the Nurettin Bayraktar bridge, which is near the cemetery.

The place where I stay is close to the deceased's grave. I make a living by collecting beverage cans and working as a scrap dealer. On the day of the incident, I entered the cemetery with the intention of collecting cans. It was nighttime. I don't remember what time it was. I learned from newspapers and news reports that the deceased's grave was there.

I wanted to look at the grave. Upon that, I went to the grave site. Then I got angry about the incident where a small child was killed. I lost control in that moment of anger. Then I pulled out the flowers on the grave.

I lifted and threw away the fences. I don't know why I did this. I carried out these actions in that moment of anger. I don't remember much else about the matter anyway."

"I DID NOT RECEIVE ANY INSTRUCTIONS OR MONEY FROM ANYONE"

Continuing his statement, the suspect D.A. said, "I did not receive any instructions or money from anyone to carry out this incident. I also do not know the individuals who killed the deceased."

When asked, "Did you know on the day you carried out the incident that the trial regarding the murder of the deceased was going to be held?", the suspect replied, "I had no knowledge that the trial was going to be held.

I only knew from newspaper reports that the deceased had been killed and that his grave was there. I have no other information."
