The statement issued by YÖK included the following expressions:

"We present our statement to the attention of the public regarding the rejection of the application of our dentistry student, Dilara Çiçek, who wanted to serve at the World Dental Congress to be held in Istanbul, on the grounds that she wears a headscarf:

We condemn the obstruction of our valued student Dilara Çiçek from serving at the World Dental Congress to be held in Istanbul due to her wearing a headscarf, and consequently, the obstruction of her right to education.

In our meeting with our student, we conveyed that our support and confidence in her are absolute, and that we will invite her to events and congresses to be held by our universities on dentistry in order to resolve the grievance she experienced and to support her efforts to become a good physician."
