The processing of the suspect, R.C.Ç., who stopped his vehicle on the bridge last night and caused the closure of traffic due to holding a pin with red wires in his hand, has been completed at the Beşiktaş District Police Department.

The suspect was sent to the Istanbul Courthouse in Çağlayan. After giving his statement to the prosecutor, R.C.Ç. was referred to the on-duty criminal judgeship of peace.

The court decided to arrest the suspect on charges of "endangering traffic safety" and "threatening to create fear and panic among the public."

Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç stated, "The suspect Resul Can Çatı, who stopped his vehicle on the 15 July Martyrs Bridge, blocked traffic, and was detained as part of the judicial investigation initiated by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, has been arrested by the decision of the Istanbul On-Duty Criminal Judgeship of Peace, to which he was referred with a request for arrest on charges of 'Endangering Traffic Safety' and 'Threatening to Create Fear and Panic Among the Public'."

"FLOUR, PASTA, AND BULGUR"

In his statement to the prosecutor, the suspect R.C.Ç. claimed that he saw that children with SMA were in a bad condition and that he carried out the act in question to draw attention to this.

Explaining that he made the device that looked like a bomb in his vehicle himself, R.C.Ç. said, "My goal was to block traffic and draw attention to this issue. The device contained flour, pasta, and bulgur. I also placed a battery and some wires. I did not receive any support or help from anyone. No one knew about it. I do not regret the incident."

WHAT HAPPENED?

When police teams approached the car that stopped on the 15 July Martyrs Bridge yesterday and saw that the person sitting in the driver's seat was holding a pin with red wires, the bridge was closed to traffic as a precaution.

It was learned that Bomb Disposal and Investigation Branch teams, reinforcement units, and police negotiators were dispatched to the scene, and that R.C.Ç. told the teams that he resorted to such an act so that the state would help SMA patients and that he wanted to speak with a high-ranking state official.

After negotiations lasting about an hour, the suspect was taken into custody by police teams.
