Statement on 'Hatay' from Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu

Following the victory of AKP candidate Mehmet Öntürk in the March 31 Local Elections, the objections filed by the incumbent CHP Hatay Metropolitan Mayor Lütfü Savaş to the election boards did not yield results. Former CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu made statements regarding the matter on his social media account.

Following the March 31 Local Elections, after AKP candidate Mehmet Öntürk placed first, the objections filed by CHP's Hatay Metropolitan Mayor Lütfü Savaş to the election boards remained inconclusive. It was decided that the certificate of election would be given to Mehmet Öntürk, and it was announced that the CHP would appeal to the Supreme Election Council (YSK).

In a statement made by the CHP, it was emphasized that there were 38 thousand 899 invalid votes, a number approximately 15 times the difference between the two candidates, and it was stated that these votes could affect the election result. Furthermore, it was alleged that the decision taken was not in accordance with election law.

During a period when the objection process is ongoing, the legitimacy of the certificate of election given to Mehmet Öntürk by the Provincial Election Board was questioned, and it was stated that an application would be made to the Supreme Election Council (YSK) to prevent the issuance of the certificate.

Regarding the issue, former CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, who said "If you kill reason, morality also dies," made statements on his social media account.

Kılıçdaroğlu noted the following:

"If you kill reason, morality also dies.

When reason and morality die, the nation is divided.

The day you buy the judge, justice dies.

The day you kill justice, the State also dies.”

You made our police and municipal officers serve as ballot box chairmen; you killed reason!

You cast votes using the names of our citizens who have passed away, in a number greater than the vote difference between the two candidates; you killed morality!

I am warning you: take your hands off the judges and the judicial institutions! If you kill justice, THE STATE DIES.

Today, the expectation of Turkey from the judges who will decide on the will of a whole city, #Hatay, is:

• Uphold democracy,

• Uphold justice,

Uphold them so that THE STATE MAY LIVE!"
