Statement on protest ban from Mardin Governor's Office

In a statement issued by the Mardin Governor's Office, it was reported that protests and events have been banned across the city for 5 days. Under the decision, it was announced that those arriving in the city for the purpose of protesting will not be permitted to enter.
5-DAY PROTEST BAN IN MARDIN
The statement from the Governor's Office included the following:
"Regarding the march intended to be held on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at 13:00 on Nevruz Boulevard in the Nusaybin district of our province, as a result of a detailed assessment taking into account recent events both within our country and beyond our borders, as well as their potential effects on our province, it has been evaluated that, using the aforementioned march event as a pretext, actions that could disrupt public order and security may intensify before, during, and after the date the march is to take place.
In order to ensure peace and security, the inviolability of the person, the safety of property, and public welfare within the provincial borders, to protect the rights and freedoms of individuals, to prevent the occurrence of violent incidents, and to eliminate the threats and risks mentioned above, our Governor's Office has deemed it appropriate to take the following measures within the administrative borders of Mardin province."
"Starting from 00:01 on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, until 23:59 on Saturday, January 31, 2026, for a period of 5 days, all types of actions (gatherings, marches, press statements, hunger strikes, sit-ins, rallies, setting up stands, erecting tents, distributing leaflets/brochures, hanging posters/banners, etc.) intended to be held in open areas, except for events deemed appropriate by the Governor's Office and District Governorships, as well as the departure of individuals and vehicles from other districts assessed to be participating in the intended marches and/or their entry into the city center, and the entry/passage/exit of individuals and vehicles from other provinces assessed to be arriving for the purpose of participating in the aforementioned gatherings and marches, have been banned in accordance with Articles 17 and 19 of the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations No. 2911 and Articles 11/A, B, and C of the Provincial Administration Law No. 5442."
