Statement on the boycott from the Federation of Restaurant Owners: 'To ensure it is auditable...'

Sayit Karabağlı, Chairman of the Turkish Federation of Restaurant and Pastry Shop Owners, has requested that price tariffs in the food and beverage sector in Turkey be approved by the federation according to provinces and business categories.

Sayit Karabağlı, Chairman of the Turkish Federation of Restaurant and Pastry Shop Owners, stated in a written statement evaluating the boycott call made on social media for the food and beverage sector that, as a federation, they have been resolving the issues of citizens who contact them regarding their complaints.

PROPOSAL FOR REGULATION AND SUPPLY COOPERATIVES

Pointing to issues such as input costs, commissions, and taxes that trigger price increases in the food and beverage sector, Karabağlı proposed supporting the establishment of regulation and supply cooperatives by chambers and federations to ensure that the sector can access the products it will supply more easily and at cheaper prices.

Karabağlı also requested that regulations limiting rent increases in residences be extended to include workplaces, that rent withholding taxes be covered by the property owner receiving the rental income, and that regulations be made to make the eviction of workplaces more difficult.

"PRICE TARIFFS SHOULD BE DETERMINED ACCORDING TO THEIR CATEGORIES"

Karabağlı noted the following:

"To ensure it is auditable, price tariffs should be determined according to their categories by the chambers operating in 81 provinces and approved by our federation. Approved price tariffs should be recorded and given to members. Tariffs must be hung on the doors of the workplaces or placed in a visible manner at the entrance of the workplace, provided that they are identical to the original. During inspections, it will be more reliable and executable for auditors to compare the approved tariff with the displayed tariff."

Economist İris Cibre, who initiated the boycott in question, had shared the following on her social media account:

"By majority decision, we are not going to cafes and restaurants on Saturday and Sunday, April 20-21.

We invite everyone to participate to put an end to opportunism.
