Step back taken in Kaz Mountains mining project
The operating license for the Kısacık Gold Mine project, which had been held for 16 years in the Kaz Mountains, has been cancelled by the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources.

In 2007, Pumice Madencilik A.Ş., which wanted to launch the Kısacık Gold Mine project near Kısacık Village in the Ayvacık district of Çanakkale and began drilling operations, initiated its first Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process in 2015. The local public reacted against it. The project's EIA process was terminated in 2018.
The company restarted the EIA process in 2023.
CANCELLED
According to the report by Birgün Ege from Birgün, the operating license for the Kısacık Gold Mine project has been cancelled by the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources.
The Kaz Mountains Natural and Cultural Heritage Protection Association held information meetings and signature campaigns in the region following the restart of the EIA process. Local residents protested the public participation meeting held on November 14, 2023. Following these developments, the operating license for the Kısacık Gold Mine project was cancelled by the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources.
In a statement, the Kaz Mountains Natural and Cultural Heritage Protection Association said, "As a result of our right-to-information application to the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, we received the news that the company's license has been cancelled, and both as an association and as local residents and villagers, we are very pleased."
