Stray animal regulation in Parliament: AKP's Güler explains details of the legislative proposal
The AKP's legislative proposal to amend the Animal Protection Law, which includes provisions for the euthanasia (killing) of stray animals, has been submitted to the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM).

The legislative proposal containing regulations for stray animals, prepared under the instructions of AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, has reached the TBMM.
Announcing that the proposal has been submitted to Parliament, AKP Group Chairman Abdullah Güler stated, "We have prepared a 17-article proposal; there is a situation that concerns public health."
EUTHANASIA WILL BE APPLIED
Güler explained the details of the legislative proposal. According to the proposal, euthanasia will be applied to aggressive dogs that carry the risk of rabies.
FINES AND PRISON SENTENCES ALSO INCLUDED
A fine of 60 thousand liras per animal will be imposed on those who abandon their adopted dogs on the street.
Administrative officials who fail to perform their duties will face prison sentences ranging from 6 months to 2 years.

"Under the current Law No. 5199, there is a practice of removing stray animals from their locations and taking them to shelters for neutering. However, it is clear that this has remained insufficient.
With the new legislative proposal, we are providing the opportunity to end the lives of dogs that carry the risk of rabies, have become aggressive, and have no possibility of rehabilitation through euthanasia.
We are proposing prison sentences of 6 months to 2 years for mayors, council members, and administrative officials in local administrations who do not carry out sufficient work despite the clear mandate of the law."
