Street interviews in RTÜK's crosshairs! Ebubekir Şahin announces 'inspections'

RTÜK President Ebubekir Şahin stated that inspections of street interviews published on various platforms will be further tightened. Şahin said, "Such content that incites the public to hatred and hostility and fuels discrimination will never be tolerated, and our inspections regarding street interviews will be further tightened and continued with determination."

Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) President Ebubekir Şahin made a post on his social media account regarding street interviews.

Claiming that street interviews divide society, manipulate it, and lead to misinformation, Şahin said that they would be monitoring such broadcasts.

Şahin used the following expressions in his statement:

"To the Attention of the Public!

In our previous statements, we had indicated that content produced under the name of "street interviews" published on various platforms leads to division, manipulation, and misinformation in society, and we had stated that we would be monitoring such broadcasts.

However, we see with regret that some circles continue to ignore the sensitivities of our society and persistently continue their broadcasts that trample on human dignity, target specific segments, and fuel hate speech. Finally, the street interview conducted against one of our citizens, which exceeds moral and legal boundaries and contains severe insults and disrespect, constitutes a clear violation of rights that falls outside the scope of press professional principles and freedom of expression.

The necessary legal process has been initiated against this person who insulted our citizen by disparaging and humiliating them without knowing their education, culture, or personality, and a criminal complaint will be filed with the Public Prosecutor's Office. Furthermore, such content that incites the public to hatred and hostility and fuels discrimination will never be tolerated, and our inspections regarding street interviews will be further tightened and continued with determination.

As the Radio and Television Supreme Council, we will continue to approach any violation of our citizens' honor, reputation, and personal rights with sensitivity and to take the necessary steps to protect the law and ethical principles in the audiovisual media field.
