Strict oversight for novice drivers: Licenses to be revoked immediately for serious violations

With the acceptance of the first 7 articles of the legislative proposal submitted to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, the "novice driver" period applied to those receiving a driver's license has been reorganized with stricter sanctions.
According to the regulation, those receiving a driver's license for the first time and individuals who have become eligible to receive a license again after their driver's license was revoked for any reason will be evaluated under the novice driver status for a period of 2 years. During this period, behavior contrary to traffic rules will result in more severe consequences compared to current practices.
LICENSE REVOCATION FOR SERIOUS VIOLATIONS
For novice drivers, direct license revocation will come to the agenda for certain violations instead of the "temporary license suspension" practice. Thus, drivers who commit serious traffic violations during the 2-year probationary period will have to complete the process from the beginning to get back behind the wheel.
Violations that will lead to the revocation of a novice driver's license include drifting or weaving through traffic, driving under the influence with a blood alcohol level above 0.20 promille, exceeding a total of 75 penalty points, and violating vital rules such as turning regulations and seat belt usage 3 times.
Novice drivers whose licenses are revoked will have to register for a motor vehicle driver training course from scratch to obtain a license again. Driver candidates who complete the theoretical and practical training again will need to be successful in the written and driving exams to receive a Motor Vehicle Driver Certificate.
Those who complete the certification process will only be eligible to obtain a driver's license again after this stage. The regulation introduces a stricter oversight framework aimed at reducing rule violations by new drivers, especially in their first two years on the road.
