Stating that there is no need for a legal regulation for the release of former HDP Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaş, Tayyar said, "He could be released the next day."
Stating that Demirtaş's release is a political choice, Tayyar claimed that Öcalan has a negative influence on this matter.
"A POLITICAL CHOICE"
Speaking on the Medya Kritik program about the possibility of former HDP Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaş, who is currently imprisoned, being released during the "Terror-Free Turkey" process, former AKP MP Şamil Tayyar said, "If the release of Selahattin Demirtaş is desired, there is actually no need for a legal regulation. He could be released the next day, or 3 days later," adding, "I think this is a political choice and that Öcalan also has a negative influence on this."
Continuing his remarks, Tayyar stated, "We see that Öcalan looks askance at Demirtaş, that he has instructed the DEM delegation to stay away from him as much as possible, and that relations are not developing in a very desirable way. That is the impression we get from the minutes."
"Demirtaş has a very serious influence on Kurdish voters," Tayyar said. "We see that Abdullah Öcalan is not very pleased with him emerging as an actor on the field due to concerns that this potential could lead to uncontrollable developments. I am of the opinion that this is not very correct."
