Following the absolute nullity decision that brought Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu to the position of CHP Chairman, the entry of police into the party headquarters has brought new debates within the CHP. Party members evaluating the process stated that the developments have significantly changed the perception among the party base.
Nefes newspaper columnist Aytunç Erkin shared striking assessments from his meetings with prominent CHP figures. The CHP members interviewed stated that it is "very, very difficult" for current CHP Chairman Özgür Özel and Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, who was appointed as chairman, to come together under current conditions.
SEARCH FOR CONSENSUS WITHIN THE PARTY
CHP members, who argue that the tension within the party must be ended, stated that initiatives will be taken to create a ground for reconciliation between the parties.
CHP members made the following assessments:
"- Someone dropped a bomb inside the party. The party's conscience is bleeding. Mr. Kemal is also eroding day by day. I wish they could reach a consensus. We see this as a trap aimed at dividing the party. This is the duty of all CHP members, starting with Mr. Özgür and Mr. Kemal. To spoil this game!
We will hold some meetings. As party elders, we see the trap of division; the game must be spoiled. Everyone is aware of this. There are 10-12 people who want to find a middle ground. It is very, very difficult, but we must find a middle ground."
PERCEPTION CHANGED AFTER POLICE INTERVENTION
Claiming that the approach among the base has changed following the entry of police into the party headquarters, the CHP members used the following expressions:
"- Until the police entered the party, this voice was rising in the party public opinion: Let both of them withdraw and the party rally around a new name. But from the moment the police entered the CHP, the headquarters where we were born and raised, Mr. Kemal turned into an object of hatred, and Mr. Özgür became a hero. That is the essence of the matter."
