Following the terrorist attack in front of Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAŞ) in Ankara, veteran journalist Saygı Öztürk made striking assessments regarding the background of the incident.
Emphasizing the timing and security dimensions of the attack, Öztürk drew attention to the messages sent both domestically and internationally.
IS THE REACTION TO BAHÇELİ'S MESSAGE BEING SUPPRESSED?
Recalling that MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli's remarks regarding Abdullah Öcalan, "Let him come to Parliament and speak, let him say that terrorism has ended," caused outrage in public opinion, especially among families of martyrs and veterans, Öztürk stated the following:
"It is being brought up by certain segments that such an act might have been carried out to suppress this reaction. It has such an aspect as well."
TIMING OF THE ATTACK: THE PRESIDENT'S RUSSIA CONTACT AND THE US MESSAGE
Pointing out that the attack took place during President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's visit to Russia, Öztürk highlighted the international dimension of the event:
"While the rapprochement with Russia and integration into the system are being discussed, the US's discomfort with this situation is known. This act also contains the message, 'Look, we can enter the strategic points we want.'"
SECURITY VULNERABILITY AND QUESTION MARKS
Öztürk stated that the fact that the attackers were able to reach a strategic point like TUSAŞ in a city with high security measures like Ankara, swinging their arms freely, points to a serious security gap:
"The attackers were able to come to the facility's gate with explosives and weapons on them. The occurrence of such an act in the capital, where camera systems and facial recognition technologies are present, points to significant security weaknesses."
While efforts are being made to shed light on the background of the incident, it was reported that security forces are deepening the investigation and statements regarding the developments are awaited.
