CHP Deputy Chairman Deniz Yavuzyılmazclaimed that as part of the government's preparations to privatize bridges and highways, the free passage policy applied during holiday periods will come to an end.
In a statement on his social media account, Yavuzyılmaz indicated that this year's Ramadan Feast might be the last time this practice is implemented.
In his post, Yavuzyılmaz stated: "A notice to our citizens who will hit the road this holiday: This year, for the last time, public toll bridges and highways will be free during the Ramadan Feast. According to the AKP's plan to privatize the 15 July Martyrs Bridge, the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge, and 7 highways, these bridges and highways will no longer be free during holidays starting next year. Because the bridges and highways built under the Build-Operate-Transfer model and operated by crony companies are already paid for by our citizens during holidays. Moreover, the cost of these roads has been paid for many times over by our citizens' taxes over the years. It seems that the AKP is intent on ruining the holidays of citizens in the coming years." he said.
