It has been alleged that Öcalan sent a letter from İmralı to Mazlum Abdi, the leader of the SDF, the umbrella organization of the terrorist group PKK in Syria.
According to a report by the pro-government newspaper Türkiye Gazetesi, it was stated that in the letter in question, Öcalan drew attention to foreign elements within the SDF and called for them to be separated from the structure. It was pointed out that there are individuals of Turkish, Iraqi, and Iranian origin within the ranks of the SDF.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan, Minister of National Defense Yaşar Güler, and MIT Chief İbrahim Kalın traveled to Damascus, the capital of Syria, yesterday and held a meeting with Ahmed Shara, the leader of the interim administration.
It was reported that the contacts were made within the framework of the memorandum signed between the SDF and the Syrian administration on March 10.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan had previously stated in a statement regarding the issue, "We want non-Syrian elements to be removed from the SDF and to leave immediately. All elements deployed against Turkey's interests and security must be removed."
