Striking claim regarding Cem Garipoğlu's grave!

The grave of Cem Garipoğlu, who murdered high school student Münevver Karabulut in Bahçeşehir in 2009, was opened today at 11:00. The body removed from Garipoğlu's grave was taken to the Council of Forensic Medicine. A DNA match will be performed using bone samples taken from Garipoğlu's remains.

SHROUD AND CLOTH DETAIL

Rezan Epözdemir, the lawyer for Münevver Karabulut's family who was present when the grave was opened, said there was no shroud or cloth in the grave.

Making a statement at the cemetery, the Karabulut family's lawyer Rezan Epözdemir provided the following information:

“There were two layers. There is nothing in the first layer. There was no shroud or cloth. There were bones and a skull scattered on the soil. It was recorded in the minutes that there was no shroud or cloth. Forensic experts wrote it down. There were only bones and a skull lying scattered on the soil; there was no bodily integrity.

This could present us with a few alternatives. Could they have disappeared or eroded within 10 years? That does not seem very rational to me. The possibility that the bones were placed there later stands before us as a very strong possibility in the absence of a shroud. That disturbed me greatly. No records were taken during the burial process in 2014. We did not enter the autopsy, nor do we have the legal right to do so. An instruction had been written regarding identification.

Identification could not be made. Only his lawyers were present. It was absolutely necessary for the relatives of the deceased to be present for identification. It was placed in a sterile cloth and sent to the Council of Forensic Medicine. The teeth, in particular, will be examined. We requested that it be done not based on samples taken in the past, but with samples to be taken from the male members of the Garipoğlu family. We specifically requested that it be examined with current DNA samples.”

'HE WOULD HAVE REMAINED IN PRISON FOR 15 YEARS, HE WOULD HAVE BEEN RELEASED THIS MONTH'

Speaking about the events during the investigation process, Epözdemir said, 'he received the heaviest sentence he could get, a 24-year prison sentence,' and added:

“He was going to stay in prison for 15 years; he would have been released this month. That is, there is a claim that he died, in the event that it is determined he is alive. It was said that Cem Garipoğlu committed suicide on October 10, 2014. Suicide can be by drugs or by a weapon, but for a person in prison to buy a clothesline from the canteen, put a bag over his head, tighten this rope for 1 minute, and kill himself by strangulation is a suicide method contrary to the ordinary flow of life. Because the body reacts to that. It is very difficult for a person to strangle themselves. There is a psychologist's report in the file stating that he was not prone to suicide. A person who commits suicide leaves a suicide note. Is there one here? No. He is learning Chinese and Russian; it shouldn't be that hard to write a suicide note.

In the last 3 years, a photo of a bloody sofa emerged. Your child has brutally murdered Münevver Karabulut. You do not convey your condolences; you take a happy family photo on the bloody sofa where the murder was committed. What kind of thing is this? This is a very inhumane, unconscionable, and immoral attitude.”

'EXAMINATION WILL BE CONDUCTED ON TEETH, HAIR, AND LONG BONES SUCH AS THE BACKBONE'

Stating that Münevver Karabulut's family said, 'let us request an exhumation' following these events, Epözdemir said, “We have been conducting a legal struggle regarding this for about 2 years. The Silivri Chief Public Prosecutor's Office accepted our request. It wrote an instruction to the Anatolian Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. This exhumation will not be a classic exhumation. What kind of exhumation process will be carried out here? The cemetery will be opened, and the entire body will be removed from the cemetery. It will be taken to the Council of Forensic Medicine with a vehicle. The Council of Forensic Medicine will conduct biological and chemical examinations on the body. Biological and chemical examinations will be carried out by taking DNA fragments, especially from teeth, hair if any, and long bones such as the backbone. Then it will be brought back here and buried, and the grave will be closed,” he said.

Lawyer Epözdemir said, “Three results may come. First, 'We cannot conduct an examination due to the time that has passed,' second, 'The deceased is Cem Garipoğlu,' and third, a determination can be made that 'The deceased is not Cem Garipoğlu,'” he said.
