Striking commentary on the historic summit from Erdoğan's former speechwriter! 'Erdoğan cornered Özel'

Aydın Ünal, former speechwriter for AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and a columnist for Yeni Şafak, commented on the meeting between Erdoğan and CHP leader Özgür Özel, stating, "By saying 'softening in politics,' Erdoğan showed that he will follow a more positive and moderate path for the next 4 years. It would not be wrong to say that he cornered Özel in this sense."

AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and CHP Chairman Özgür Özel's meeting at the AKP Headquarters continues to resonate.

Following the historic summit, which lasted 1.5 hours, Erdoğan gave a message of a 'period of softening' in politics.

Erdoğan's former speechwriter and Yeni Şafak columnist Aydın Ünal made a notable comment regarding the meeting between the two leaders.

In the relevant section of his article regarding expectations of a "softening in politics" following the two leaders' meeting, Ünal stated: "The opposition base claims that polarization, tension, and factionalism in Turkey are produced by Erdoğan and the AK Party. However, the opposite is true. Before May 14, the CHP had to keep the opposing poles within itself together and in balance. For example, it held Alevis and secularists, nationalists and leftists, socialists and fascists in its palm with the agility and attention of a tightrope walker. The fact that the CHP supports leftist organizations every May 1st but disappears when violent acts begin is an example of this. The CHP now has many more factions to manage. In addition to those above, nationalists, racists, a small number of conservatives, right-wingers, Kurds, and PKK supporters have been added to the equation. In other words, the CHP now needs more fighting, polarization, tension, and factionalism than ever before."
