Striking commentary on the judicial crisis: 'The button for a major operation has been pressed'

The repercussions continue following the Court of Cassation's 3rd Criminal Chamber ruling not to implement the 'violation of rights' decision issued by the Constitutional Court (AYM) regarding Gezi prisoner and TİP Hatay MP Can Atalay, as well as its decision to file a criminal complaint against the members of the Constitutional Court.
Evaluating the crisis in the high judiciary, Halk TV columnist Mehmet Tezkan stated, "It is clear that even if they cannot abolish the Constitutional Court in line with Bahçeli's wishes, they will at least clip its wings... I said operation... I suppose no one thinks this crisis emerged unexpectedly."

Pointing to the words of AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, "I am not in a position to be a party to the fight; the duty of arbitration may fall to us," Tezkan continued as follows:
"Most people perceived this as a declaration of neutrality... No, that is not the meaning of his words. He wanted to say that I am above both the Constitutional Court and the Court of Cassation. What does arbitration mean? It means I make the final decision... It means I am the sole and supreme authority...
However, the Constitution is clear and explicit: Article 148 of the Constitution grants the Constitutional Court the authority to try even presidents. This means that is the supreme authority...
Let no one object, let no one try to cover it up or ignore it... The truth is this; the button for a major operation has been pressed. Using the judicial crisis as a pretext, a process has been initiated to bind the judiciary to a single authority."
