Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye (TBMM) Numan Kurtulmuş has gone down in history as the first Parliament Speaker to visit the Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality in 26 years. During the visit, the long-standing political tension between the DEM Party-led municipality and HÜDA PAR surfaced once again.
The most striking moment of the visit served as a clear indicator of how tense the relations between the DEM Party and HÜDA PAR leaders are. Zekeriya Yapıcıoğlu, Chairman of HÜDA PAR and Member of Parliament for Istanbul, was among those present at the visit. However, during the meeting, the distance between DEM Party co-chairs Serra Bucak and Doğan Hatun and Yapıcıoğlu became quite apparent.
THE ATTITUDE OF DEM PARTY CHAIRS DREW ATTENTION
In the footage of the meeting reflected in the press, it was seen that Co-Chair Serra Bucak did not extend her hand to Zekeriya Yapıcıoğlu and greeted him only by saying "Welcome." Yapıcıoğlu, for his part, greeted Bucak by placing his hand on his chest.
Similarly, it was observed that Co-Chair Doğan Hatun chose not to shake hands by looking in another direction when he approached Yapıcıoğlu. Hatun's decision to shake hands with AKP deputies was another notable detail.
