Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu pointed to the world's silence regarding Israel's ground operation against Gaza, stating, "The silence of the international community, especially the US, means sharing the responsibility for this bloodshed. Peace, justice, and human life can no longer wait. International actors must stop being complicit in these crimes against humanity and fulfill their responsibilities."
Israel carried out heavy bombardment on Gaza City throughout the night. According to reports from US-based Axios and the Jerusalem Post, it was stated that the Israeli army has launched a ground operation aiming to fully occupy the city.
It was reported that attacks are continuing in the central regions of Gaza and that civilian escape routes are being targeted. Palestinian officials announced that the number of dead and wounded is rising rapidly.
İmamoğlu reacted to Israel on his social media account.
İmamoğlu's social media post is as follows:
"The crimes against humanity committed by Israel in Gaza do not stop, do not end, and are becoming even more severe. For years, Israel has displaced the Palestinian people from their homes and lands and left them hungry; now it is targeting those who survived.
Tanks have entered the city center, airstrikes continue, and innocent children and blameless civilians are losing their lives. This is unacceptable to any person with a conscience.
Netanyahu and the Israeli administration are leaving a dark stain on history with their policies of war, occupation, and death. And the world is still silent…
The silence of the international community, especially the US, means sharing the responsibility for this bloodshed.
Peace, justice, and human life can no longer wait. International actors must stop being complicit in these crimes against humanity and fulfill their responsibilities."
