As the purchasing power of the Turkish Lira declines due to high inflation and the cost of living, citizens struggling to make ends meet have turned their eyes to a minimum wage hike.

THE GOVERNMENT HAS CLOSED THE DOORS TO A RAISE

Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Işıkhan, who has closed the doors to a mid-year raise for the minimum wage, argued that economic data is improving and stated, "There will be no additional raise for the minimum wage."

Economist Prof. Dr. Özgür Demirtaş stated in a post on his social media account that if no raise is made to the minimum wage in July, the lower-income group will face the greatest purchasing power crisis in recent history.

Demirtaş's post is as follows;

"If no raise is made to the Minimum Wage in July: Towards the end of the year, the Lower Income Group will fall into the greatest purchasing power crisis of our recent history. Unfortunately, the lower-income group is experiencing the consequences of not being financially literate."
