Burcu Köksal, who was elected Mayor of Afyonkarahisar from the CHP in the local elections on March 31, 2024, has officially transferred to the AKP.
While Köksal's change of party remains a hot topic on the political agenda, journalist Barış Yarkadaş has put forward striking claims regarding the transfer process in question.
HELD CONTACTS IN ANKARA
Speaking on Tv100, Yarkadaş said that Burcu Köksal had been indecisive about joining the AKP for some time and had held various meetings with CHP figures in Ankara. Yarkadaş stated that after these contacts, Köksal turned toward the AKP.
Yarkadaş also reported that after visiting the AKP headquarters, Burcu Köksal held a meeting with AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
“SHE WAS WAITING FOR AN ABSOLUTE NULLITY RULING”
In his statement on the program, Barış Yarkadaş used the following expressions:
“Burcu Köksal’s preferred candidate was Mansur Yavaş. Perhaps, as I understand it, Burcu Köksal was waiting for an absolute nullity ruling to be issued and for Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu to return to office. On what date did Burcu Köksal switch? On the day the criminal case regarding the party convention was being heard at the 26th Criminal Court of First Instance in Ankara. Of course, an absolute nullity ruling was not going to come out that day: Because it was a criminal case.”
SIMILAR CLAIM FROM AYTUNÇ ERKİN
Journalist Aytunç Erkin made a similar assessment. Erkin used the following expressions:
"A friend of mine who knows Ankara politics closely said regarding Burcu Köksal’s switch to the AK Party: If Ms. Burcu has lost hope in the nullity lawsuit, she will switch to the AK Party."
