Lawyer Rezan Epözdemir, who was detained on August 10 as part of two separate investigations initiated by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, was arrested on August 14 on charges of "mediating bribery." Epözdemir used striking expressions in a statement he made on his social media account.
The following statements were included in Epözdemir's announcement:
"Those who set this trap for me through social media and with a false witness are trying to associate me with the Can and Ciner Holding investigation in a hostile and unethical manner on social media so that I rot in prison and turn into a living dead. This is clearly heartless.
These trolls, who are managed from the same center with a hostile attitude and make posts in exchange for benefits, are trying to assassinate my 20-year struggle for rights and law and my reputation.
I have three children, a wife, and a family. May God spare all of our children.
My children are also being very negatively affected by these lies and slanders. I am writing in the hope that those with a little conscience will end this character assassination. I ask everyone for a little conscience and mercy.
This unlawful arrest and the slanders that unfairly target me have now turned into persecution. If I am convicted in this case, I will end my life.
For me, not living at all is better than living without honor. My request to the public is please do not give credence to imaginary and malicious allegations written with hostile attitudes. With greetings and love."
