Esenyurt has been under trustee administration since October 31, 2024. Istanbul Deputy Governor Can Aksoy is serving in the district.
Ahmet Özer, who was elected mayor with 49 percent of the vote in the March 31, 2024 Local Elections, had been arrested as part of an investigation into "urban consensus" and "Aziz İhsan Aktaş." Release decisions were later issued for Özer in both cases.
