Strong reaction from ASI to NATO detentions: 'A shield for NATO, handcuffs for the defense!'

Six members of the Voice of Lawyers Initiative (ASI) were released among the 12 lawyers detained ahead of the NATO Summit. Making a statement in front of the Çağlayan Courthouse, ASI demanded the release of the other lawyers and citizens still in custody.

Ahead of the NATO Summit to be held on July 7-8, 12 lawyers were detained, including 6 from the Voice of Lawyers Initiative (ASI), 4 from the Unyielding Jurists, and 2 from the Progressive Lawyers Association (ÇHD). While 6 lawyers have been released, a strong reaction to the NATO-related detentions came from ASI.

While Voice of Lawyers Initiative members Atty. Pınar Akbina Karaman, Atty. Doğan Zafer Çıngı, Atty. Fettah Ayhan Erkan, Atty. Tacettin Çolak, Atty. İbrahim Kıvılcım Çolak, and Atty. Sait Kıran were released, the lawyers detained from ÇHD and the Unyielding Jurists are also expected to be released.

ASI held a press statement in front of the Çağlayan Courthouse demanding the release of their members, other lawyers, and citizens being held in custody at the Istanbul and Ankara Police Departments.
