Strong reactions from political figures to the arrest of Muhittin Böcek: 'You are null and void'

Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Muhittin Böcek, who was detained as part of a corruption investigation in Antalya, has been referred to the courthouse.

While Böcek's former daughter-in-law, who was also detained, was released with a travel ban, it was learned that his son, Mustafa Gökhan Böcek, for whom an arrest warrant was issued, is currently abroad.

Böcek was referred to the Criminal Court of Peace by the prosecutor's office with a request for his arrest. After his statement was taken by the judge, Böcek was arrested.

Gökhan Zeybek:

CHP Deputy Chairman Gökan Zeybek reacted to the arrest of Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Muhittin Böcek. Zeybek stated, 'Our nation will not forgive these actions. Dirty schemes cannot intimidate either the people of Antalya or the millions who believe in democracy.'

In a post on his social media account, Zeybek stated, 'Our nation will not forgive these actions! The arrest of our Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Muhittin Böcek is a clear indication that law and justice have been completely disregarded. Dirty schemes cannot intimidate either the people of Antalya or the millions who believe in democracy. This oppressive and anti-democratic order has long been null and void in the conscience of the nation.'

Ensar Aytekin:

CHP Deputy Chairman Ensar Aytekin reacted to the arrest of Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Muhittin Böcek, stating, 'A government that has lost its legitimacy is unleashing its hitmen in the judiciary upon the people and their representatives.'

In a post on his social media account, Aytekin said, 'Our Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Muhittin Böcek has been arrested! Fascism knocks on the door at the crack of dawn every Saturday. A government that has lost its legitimacy is unleashing its hitmen in the judiciary upon the people and their representatives.'

Burhanettin Bulut:

CHP Deputy Chairman Burhanettin Bulut reacted to the arrest of Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Muhittin Böcek.

In a post on his social media account, Bulut stated, 'The arrest of our Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Muhittin Böcek is a declaration that the rule of law has ended. The government, which tries to discredit the municipalities it could not win at the ballot box by using the judiciary as a stick, is ignoring the will of the nation and striking a blow to democracy. You are null and void in the conscience of the nation! We will not bow down to these dirty operations, these injustices, and this darkness!'
