Strong winds topple 2 mosque minarets

Strong winds in the Elmadağ district of Ankara have caused the minarets of two mosques to collapse.

In Ankara, strong winds and rain that were effective during the afternoon hours negatively impacted daily life.

In the Kayadibi neighborhood of the Elmadağ district, the minarets of both the Kayadibi Neighborhood Mosque and the Örnek Neighborhood Mosque collapsed following the strong winds.

It was observed that the interior sections of the mosques were also damaged following the collapse of the minarets. Neighborhood residents notified the authorities.

While there were no deaths or injuries in the incident where the 2 minarets were destroyed by the strong winds, material damage occurred.

"WE LOOKED AND THE MINARET HAD FLOWN OFF"

A citizen named Mehmet Mermerkaya stated that a storm had broken out and he heard a sound similar to thunder, saying, "As soon as the sound stopped, dust settled. We saw that the minaret had fallen. We notified the relevant places. We had performed our prayers and came down from the mosque. We looked and the minaret had flown off" he said.
