Struck while approaching the Bosphorus: Audio recordings from Turkish oil tanker obtained

The Altura, a crude oil tanker owned by Istanbul-based Pergamon Denizcilik, was attacked while approximately 14 miles (26 kilometers) from the Bosphorus.

ATTACK WITH DRONES AND USV

According to information obtained, the oil tanker was attacked by two separate drones. It was also stated that an unmanned surface vehicle (USV) was used in the attack. It was reported that the ship sustained damage following the incident.

It was learned that an explosion occurred on the bridge of the tanker, which was reported to be carrying 140 thousand tons of crude oil. Information was shared that the engine room also began taking on water following the explosion. It was noted that the ship's crew issued an emergency distress call following the developments.

COASTAL SAFETY TEAMS DISPATCHED

Following the call, it was reported that the Kurtarma 11 and Kurtarma 12 tugboats belonging to the General Directorate of Coastal Safety were rapidly directed to the region. It was stated that the teams have arrived at the scene.

RADIO RECORDINGS EMERGE

Following the attack, the ship's radio communications also came to light. In the recordings, the crew can be clearly heard stating that they were under attack and requesting emergency support.
