Student who shot and killed school principal in Eyüpsultan arrested

Y.K., who was detained for shooting and killing school principal İbrahim Oktugan at a private high school on Beste Street in the Alibeyköy neighborhood, holding him responsible for his expulsion, has been arrested.

In the incident that occurred on May 7 in Eyüpsultan, it is alleged that a foreign national student, Y.K. (17), shot and critically wounded school principal İbrahim Oktugan in his office with a firearm, holding him responsible for his expulsion from the private high school he attended and harboring a grudge due to a previous argument between them.

While Oktugan, who was rushed to the hospital, lost his life, Y.K. was apprehended and taken into custody following the incident.

The minor, whose procedures at the police station were completed, was referred to the Istanbul Courthouse in Çağlayan. After giving his statement to the Prosecutor's Office, Y.K. was referred to the duty magistrate with a request for his arrest on the charge of 'premeditated murder of a person due to the public duty they perform'.

HE CONFESSED

In the prosecutor's referral document, it was stated that it was understood that a grudge had formed between Y.K. and the victim following an argument that took place in December 2023.

The document stated that despite Y.K. reaching a state of mental calm following this argument, he carried out the act of killing as planned, and noted that the suspect shot the victim twice in vital areas with a handgun that has not yet been recovered.

In the referral document, it was stated that Y.K. accepted the accusations leveled against him, and it was requested that he be arrested for the crime of "premeditated murder of a person due to the public duty they perform".

The suspect was arrested for the crime he was charged with following his proceedings at the magistrate's court.
