At the Ordu University Faculty of Medicine graduation ceremony held on June 27, the Hippocratic Oath was subjected to censorship. The 'sexual orientation' section of the Hippocratic Oath, known as the 'Physician's Pledge' that students recite before beginning their profession, was censored.
According to a report in Birgün, the phrase 'sexual orientation' was removed from the part of the oath that reads, “I will not permit considerations of age, disease or disability, creed, ethnic origin, gender, sexual orientation, nationality, political affiliation, race, social standing, or any other factor to intervene between my duty and my patient…”
While the section in question was being read by Vice Dean Tuba Gül, the students added the omitted parts and recited them in unison. Following this, the parents supported the students with applause.
