Bakan visited Zafer Party Chairman Ümit Özdağ, Halk TV Editor-in-Chief Suat Toktaş, Ahmet Özer, who was removed from his post as Mayor of Esenyurt, Rıza Akpolat, who was removed from his post as Mayor of Beşiktaş, and Tayfun Kahraman, who was convicted in the Gezi Park case, all of whom are being held in prison.

Later, speaking to journalists at the CHP Silivri District Headquarters regarding his visit, Bakan said, "We are not leaving our friends alone. Even if they do not share the same views as us, or even if we are not on the same political line, we do not leave them alone because we defend democracy and the rule of law. We will not leave Ümit Özdağ alone either."

Stating that those in prison are resilient and courageous, Bakan noted the following:

"They are aware that they are being held in prison unlawfully and they say that the law is not being applied. There is one thing I want to share with the entire public that caught my attention. Two separate friends of ours said, 'We are being subjected to enemy criminal law.' One of them is Ümit Özdağ and the other is Ahmet Özer. In other words, a Kurdish politician active in the Republican People's Party says we are being subjected to enemy criminal law, and on the other hand, a nationalist politician, the chairman of a nationalist party, Ümit Özdağ, says he is being subjected to enemy criminal law. We will continue to support the legal struggle of our friends."
