Submitted to Parliament: MHP proposes new province merging 4 districts

MHP Konya Deputy Konur Alp Koçak has submitted a new legislative proposal to Parliament that envisions a significant change to the administrative map of Konya.

According to the proposal, the districts of Karapınar, Emirgazi, and Halkapınar would be separated from Konya to form a new province under the name "Ereğli." Koçak also proposed that the neighborhoods of Aziziye, Belkaya, and Zengen, currently attached to the Ereğli district, be granted district status.

It is argued that if this region, which has a population of approximately 220 thousand, is governed under a new administrative structure, public services will be accelerated and provided more efficiently. The statement in the legislative proposal shared the information that the population in the region is sufficient to become a new province.

Furthermore, the text of the proposal draws attention to the current administrative structure of Konya, highlighting that both Yalıhüyük, the district with the smallest surface area in Turkey, and Cihanbeyli, one of the largest districts, are attached to Konya. For this reason, the necessity of creating a new province was expressed so that the local population can receive fast and effective service in administrative matters.

The 150-kilometer distance of the Ereğli region from the Konya city center and its level of economic and social development were also pointed out. It was stated that it possesses a structure that surpasses many provinces in terms of industry, education, health, and transportation infrastructure.

Deputy Koçak used the following expressions in a post on his social media account:

"I have submitted our legislative work titled 'Bill on the Establishment of a New Province Named Ereğli,' which envisions Ereğli, one of the most prominent districts of Konya, becoming a province, to the Presidency of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. With the proposal, it is also aimed to elevate the neighborhoods of Aziziye, Belkaya, and Zengen, which are currently attached to the Ereğli district, to district status. May it be auspicious for our Konya and Ereğli!"
