The Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has prepared a summary (fezleke) regarding Özgür Özel and Veli Ağbaba on charges of serial bribery and sent it to the Ministry of Justice.
A summary was issued against YENİ Party Chairman Özgür Özel and Malatya MP Veli Ağbaba on charges of "serial bribery" due to bribery allegations included in the claims made by Muhittin Böcek and his son Gökhan Böcek.
The prepared summaries have been forwarded to the Ministry of Justice.
In the statement made by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the submission of the summary for the lifting of Özgür Özel's immunity to the Ministry of Justice, it was stated: "An investigation was conducted by our Chief Public Prosecutor's Office Bureau of Investigation for Civil Servant and Parliamentary Crimes regarding 28th Term MP Özgür Özel under investigation number 2026/156404 for the crime of serial bribery; it is understood that 28th Term Manisa MP and CHP Chairman Özgür Özel committed the crime of 'serial bribery' in accordance with articles 252/2, 252/1, 43/1, and 53/1-2-3 of the Turkish Penal Code (TCK) No. 5237, by abusing his influence and authority to ensure that Antalya Metropolitan Municipality mayoral candidate Muhittin Böcek and his son Mustafa Gökhan Böcek could be nominated for the local elections to be held on March 31, 2024, by obtaining benefits directly or through 28th Term MP Veli Ağbaba on different dates within the scope of a single criminal intent, and similarly by obtaining financial benefits from Uşak Mayor Özkan Yalım on different dates within the scope of a single criminal intent to be used in the CHP Congress held on November 4-5, 2023; therefore, a summary has been prepared and sent to the Ministry of Justice with the opinion that a request should be made for the lifting of the immunity of 28th Term Manisa MP Özgür Özel pursuant to Article 83 of the Constitution."
Furthermore, the following was recorded in the statement made by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the submission of the summary for the lifting of Veli Ağbaba's immunity to the Ministry of Justice:
"An investigation was conducted by our Chief Public Prosecutor's Office Bureau of Investigation for Civil Servant and Parliamentary Crimes regarding 28th Term Malatya MP Veli Ağbaba under investigation number 2026/157389 for the crime of serial bribery; it is understood that 28th Term Malatya MP Veli Ağbaba committed the crime of 'serial bribery' in accordance with articles 252/2, 252/1, 43/1, and 53/1-2-3 of the TCK No. 5237, by obtaining benefits in different amounts from Mustafa Gökhan Böcek, son of Antalya Metropolitan Mayor Muhittin Böcek, for Muhittin Böcek's mayoral candidacy upon the instruction of 28th Term Manisa MP Özgür Özel, by obtaining financial benefits by insisting that the solid waste collection tender to be held be awarded to a company of his choosing via the bargaining method contrary to the specifications by using his influence over the Mayor of Çankaya, and by obtaining financial benefits from municipalities and council members in and around İzmir to be used in the local elections to be held on March 31, 2024; therefore, a summary has been prepared and sent to the Ministry of Justice with the opinion that a request should be made for the lifting of the immunity of 28th Term Malatya MP Veli Ağbaba pursuant to Article 83 of the Constitution."
